Baccarat Tips
Tip 1
A card placed face up on the table indicates the number of cards the dealer will burn. If the card turned up is a four of clubs, the dealer will burn four cards.
Tip 2
In baccarat, a commission is taken whenever a player wins a bet placed on the banker side. This is due to the 1.06% advantage inherent when betting for the banker. Bets are paid at 0.95 to 1.
Tip 3
2 through 9 cards are counted at face value; tens, jacks, queens and kings count as 0; and aces count as 1. Suits don’t matter in baccarat.
Tip 4
First and third cards are dealt to the player. Second and Fourth cards are dealt to the banker.
Tip 5
For a total over nine, just use the last digit. Example: 6+6=2, 8+8=6. If the banker or the player has a “natural” (8 or 9), he/she automatically wins, unless there’s a tie.
Tip 6
If the player holds a total of less than 6 or 7, he/she draws.
Tip 7
If the bank has a total from 0 to 2 it always draws; with a total of 7 the bank always stands; with a total of 3 the bank draws, unless the player drew and its third card was an 8; with a total of 4 the bank draws, unless the player drew and the third card was and 8,9, or ace; with 5 the bank draws, unless the player drew a third card outside the range of 4-7; with 6 the bank stands, unless the player drew a third card of either 6 or 7.
Baccarat Strategy
Ties should be avoided by players because they give the bank a 20% advantage. If a player sticks to only the banker and player bets, the house advantage will stay at a minimum, in turn giving the player more chances of winning.
Betting on the player gives the house a 1.36% edge
Betting on the banker gives the house a 1.17% edge
In either case, the house has the edge and should win in the long run.
Some baccarat players believe in streaks and will bet on whatever won the last hand. This strategy does not give players better odds because each hand can go either way, like the flip of a coin.
Martingale Betting System
This is a dangerous system and can put players in the hole quickly in the event of a few losses. It is, however, very simple. You attempt to win 1 unit on every hand. The player’s first bet is 1 unit on player or banker. If the bet is won, the player should start again at 1 unit. If the bet is lost, however, the next bet is doubled to 2 units. Winning at this stage gives players a net win of 1 unit. In the event of another loss, the wager must be doubled again, now to 4 units. A net win at this stage is again 1 unit. The process must be followed until there’s a win. In a normal sequence, it shouldn’t be long before a win, which will cover all loses and provide a net win of 1 unit.
