Bodog is an interesting place - it's a casino, it's a poker room, it's a sportsbook - all rolled into one. It's also one of the biggest names in the online gaming world. The site has been around for ages, and offers some of the best gambling around. They've had their ups and downs, but lately, it seems like the site just keeps getting better! Bodog was founded by Calvin Ayre, who was recently featured on the cover of Forbes' Billionaire issue. Ayre started life in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, where he was born into a family of farmers. Late last year, Bodog hit a bump while traveling down the road of life - they were slapped with a $50,000,000 lawsuit brought down by a company called 1st Technology, who claim Bodog was infringing on patents. The long and short of it is that part of the judgement forced Bodog to give up their old domain (www.bodog.com). This didn't stop them, however, and the site was up and running again within 24 hours under a temporary domain, and are now settled in nicely at bodoglife.com.
In more recent news, billionaire philanthropist and Bodog founder Calvin Ayre has just announced his retirement. Ayre, in his online blog, says his retirement won't effect Bodog, since in recent years management has been taken up by a team of other trusted individuals. It has been fun, he says, but it's time to slow down. He is stepping out of the spotlight (he's not even doing interviews about his retirement), and plans to relax at his home in Antigua, while continuing his charity work with the Calvin Ayre foundation.
