Alderney is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, and is the third largest of the British Channel Islands. The island is entirely independent, belong to neither the UK nor the EU. Because of this, they are Alderney Mapable to set their own legislations, which prompted them to establish the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) in 2000 to issue licenses and to regulate online gambling.
The regulations and provisions outlined by the AGCC have seen quite a few revisions over the years, mostly tending towards stricter control and tighter rules. The AGCC has been known to revoke licenses of operators who fail to maintain these strict standards. The Commission also has a reputation for conduction in-depth preliminary investigations, weeding out undesirable companies during the license application process.
This all comes together to form a solid system of checks and balances. These include criminal background checks performed on applicants, technical tests carried out on gaming software, and since 2008, strict rules regarding the content of licensees advertisements. Overall, Alderney is a reputable licensing jurisdiction.
