F1 Australian Grand Prix betting odds

The 2011 Formula 1 betting season begins Down Under this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix.

JackpotFinder-approved online sportsbooks bet365 and BetUS naturally have the year’s first odds and proposition betting.

Though the season hasn’t yet begun, the speculation and trash-talking are already in high gear. Top McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton made a few well publicized comments on the field while slagging off Red Bull as merely a “drinks company.” Never mind that Mark Webber and Red Bull are the defending champions. bet365 has Webber at 15/2 odds to win the driver’s championship in 2011, while the drinks company is the favorite for the constructors title at 1/1. Hamilton and McLaren are 8/1 and 6/1 to win their respective titles.

Other notable contenders for the 2011 drivers’ championship title, according to bet365 online sportsbook, include:

Sebastian Vettel: 9/4
Fernando Alonso: 12/5
Nico Rosberg: 14/1
Michael Schumacher: 14/1
Jenson Button: 16/1

As for the Australian Grand Prix, bet365 and BetUS online sportsbooks have last season’s top names Vettel, Webber, Hamilton and Fernando Alonso as favorites, but the dark horse to look out for is an older guy named Michael Schumacher.

Driver Bet365 BetUS
Vettel 2/1 2/1
Alonso 11/4 11/4
Webber 9/2 4/1
Hamilton 10/1 8/1
Rosberg 12/1 10/1
Schumacher 12/1 12/1
Massa 16/1 12/1
Button 16/1 15/1
Heidfeld 28/1 30/1
Barrichello/td> 33/1 35/1

After a none-too-spectacular comeback year in 2010 that saw the former dominant force finish no higher than fourth, Schumacher and the Mercedes team have received much attention firstly for the work done in the off-season and secondly for the amazing test runs turned in by Schumacher and teammate Nico Rosberg in Barcelona recently. Schumacher in fact posted the fastest time of any driver in Spain.

Couple this with Schumacher’s four career wins in this race and the 12/1 odds posted on the 42-year-old to win this race are tempting. The favorites at bet365 and BetUS are as follows.
