Monday Night Football odds: Struggling Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers meet

Denver Broncos v San Diego Chargers odds

The Monday Night Football matchup between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers not only promises exciting (if flawed) air-it-out football, this AFC West (a.k.a. AFC Worst) clash will be exciting at top online sports betting sites with much on the line to close out NFL week 11.

At Brobury Sports and bet365 sportsbook, the pointspread remains at plus-9 for Denver and an over/under of 50 points: This projects to a final score of 30-20 or 30-21 and makes bet365’s “Handicap Betting” proposition offer even more interesting. Essentially a money line bet with a pointspread, the Broncos plus-10 will get you odds of 5/6 while Chargers minus-10 is worth a 11/10 payout on wins. And throwing a few token bucks on the Broncos losing by exactly 10 points at 11/1 is mighty tempting, too.

On the other hand, the 3-6 Broncos are finally coming together a bit, having tromped the Kansas City Chiefs (who beat the Chargers earlier in the season) 59-29 last week. While San Diego will see WRs Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Naanee return from injury, Antonio Gates’ second week out is bound to hurt again. (How important is Gates to this offense? Would you believe the *tight end* is tied for the NFL lead in touchdown catches with nine?) Fortunately for the Chargers, Denver brings a mediocre, 18th-“best” pass defense.

Despite San Diego’s statistically third-best passing defense, the over/under would still appear to be toast. The last four meetings between the teams – from 2008, when the slow breakdown of both was beginning – have averaged over 60 points. Add in an average combined 793 yards and four TD passes per game combined and taking that over looks easy. Perhaps too easy...
