Though both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were formed around the same time, the former was always viewed as Franco's favourite, with the "Real" in their name meaning "Royal." The 2020/2021 season saw Los Colchoneros clinch their 14th La Liga title, beating out Real Madrid and Barca.
