Go to any social media platform and check out the comments. You'll quickly realize that half the world appears to suffer from confirmation bias. The idea that an opinion is correct, even when faced with scientific contrary eveidence, leads to some entrenched thought processes. The same holds true with all forms of gambling. In sports gambling, as well as casino games, many gamblers will base future bets and wagers on the previous positive outcomes. But there's no connection between the two.

Bias forms a major part of our day to day thinking. For many different reasons we can make decisions based on a preexisting bias. Looking through past results is so much easier than doing proper research using contemporary statistics to help predict the sort term future. As nobody can predict the future with certainty, then looking over the past for clues is a waste of time.
