Many of the world's most famous gamblers have become well-known more for the excesses in gambling as opposed to their wins. Historical gamblers who fall under this heading were often royalty. After all, they had direct access to the treasury, filled with taxpayers money. As such, when they gambled, they were never in danger of losing their own cash. Nevertheless, they still managed to gamble away huge sums of money on games of chance, leading to serious problems for the countries themselves.
