Old Gambling Games You Can Still Play

Because all gamblers love to gamble, even when they’re not in the casino or playing online, then they’re always looking for gambling options. These can be jackpot games in the real casino or simply looking for ways to win the jackpot online. One of these is to find games that almost everyone has forgotten about. Perhaps old gambling games that your grandparents might have played but have long since gone out of fashion. One of the games on our list, Faro, was played by the founding fathers over 100 years ago during the Civil War and by Wild Bill Hickok in the Wild West. So let’s take a journey back in time to some of the games you might have played as a schoolboy.

Street Craps

The game of street craps is just a simplified version of the same game you’d find in a brick and mortar casino. The only major difference is that street craps mean that no one has an edge. It’s a great game to play if you’re with a group of friends or with your family. Just as in a real-life casino, the player will take turns throwing two dice against a wall or the edge of the pavements. The players will bet against each other.  Just as in the casino game of craps, you can find at our favourite online casino, King Billy Casino, the person throwing the dice can choose from one of two bets:

The Pass Bet

Providing the opening roll is worth 11 or 7, then the dice thrower wins. Now, if the roll happens to be worth a 12 or 2, then the person’s throwing the dice will lose. Any of the other seven numbers will create a single point. Once this point is created, then the person will throw the dice until they roll the point again or roll a 7. At this point, rolling a seven will make the shooter lose Whereas rolling the point will let him win.

Don’t Pass Bet

craps

The second bet is the don’t pass bet. With this, the shooter of the dice will lose if the first roll is worth 11 or 7. But if the dice is worth a 12 or a 2, then the dice shooter will win. Apart from this, a point will be created. Once a point has been created, then the shooter can win. Providing they roll to 7 before rolling the point. Conversely, they will lose if they roll the point before rolling a 7.  Yes, it does sound rather confusing. Of all these old gambling games, street craps is actually very simple to grasp once you’re playing.

Finally, we should mention that the other player can split the betting games, allowing the thrower and one player can accept the bet. As each round is rolled the other players can also make bets with each other.

Old Gambling Games: Quarter Pitching

This is a great way to have some gambling fun but without the risk of losing too much cash. These old gambling games require at least two players who have some quarters. And then you need a wall or something else that’s vertical to pitch the quarters against. Essentially, each player will take a turn to throw a quarter against the wall. Once done, then the quarter that’s closest to the wall will win all the other quarters. So the name of the game is to get your coin as close as possible to the wall.

As such, quarter pitching is a game of skill. That means you will struggle to win anything against someone who’s experienced with the game and has a higher level of skill than you. Having said that, it’s probably one of the easiest games to practice. After all, all you need are some quarters and a wall.  You’ll find that many more experienced players have all sorts of jackpot winning tips and tricks in order to help the coin land as close to the wall as possible.

Many older players say that they used to play quarter pitching tournaments.  This meant that each player starts with the same number of quarters. And the game continues until one player has swept them all up. One thing we should point out is that quarter pitching is a game where the most skilled player has the advantage. Because it doesn’t rely on luck, then it’s not a truly fair game.

Old Gambling Games: Acey Deucey

playing cards

This is one of the simple old gambling games that many people learn to play when they’re at school. What’s great about it is that nobody has an edge in this game. Which means it’s great to play with your friends.  You need a pack of playing cards. Before the round starts, each player will place an ante bet into the pot. In exactly the same manner you would do if you were playing poker. Once the pot has been decided, then the players go from left to right and arrive and bet any amount up to the total value of the part.

The dealer will then deal two cards after which the players will bet. The third card is then turned over. Now if the third card happens to rank between the two first cards, then the player wins the amount they bet from the pot. We should mention that the cards are ranked from the 2 being low to the Ace being high. If their card doesn’t rank between the two cards, then the player must place their bet into the pot. But if the third card is the same rank as one of the first two cards, then that’s going to be painful, as the player has to place twice their betting amount into the pot.

Once a player has won all the money in the pot, a new round starts, with each player putting in their antes again. If you’re playing Acey Deucey then be wary of the betting amounts. We suggest that you never put more than a quarter into the ante. This is because the pots can quickly grow into large amounts. So if you’re playing for $1 or higher, then some pots can reach over $1,000!

Old Gambling Games: Faro

playing cards

If you’ve seen the saloon bar scene in the movie Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer, then you have would have seen the cowboys playing Faro. It was to fall into disuse after the popularity of jackpot poker. During the ’80s and ’90s, it was one of the most popular old gambling games in many casinos from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. Today it appears to have completely disappeared from all casinos, though can be still played online at King Billy Casino. The game involves placing one of each of the 13 ranks of cards out of the table upon which bets can be placed. We suggest using an old deck of cards for this. Once those cards are laid out, then you can open a new deck of cards and deal out the new game.

Just one player will deal and bank the game. The other players are able to pass on any of the cards on the table. After every way just being placed then the dealer will deal to face-up cards. The first card is the “banker card.” The second is the “player card.” Now, the banker will collect all the bets made on the banker card. But all the bets that have been made on the player card will be paid out 1:1 by the bank. If the first and second cards happen to be the same rank, then the dealer will collect half the bets for that number.
